Gomphrena seeds for dried flowers

Gomphrena is a unique species of annual ornamental flowers that are ideal for drying. Its characteristic spherical inflorescences come in a variety of colors - from intense pink to red to white - and retain their colors even after drying. Gomphrena is great for brightening up garden beds, and when dried, it makes an excellent addition to bouquets and floral decorations. It is also a beautiful, minimalist decoration in a vase.

Gomphrena cultivation

  • Sowing: sow gomphrena seeds from late March to mid-April. It is best to use sowing trays, seedpods or pots, which can be kept in a warm and bright place.
  • Substrate: Gomphrena requires permeable and light soil. Sow the seeds about 0.5 cm deep, covering them gently.
  • Germination: Seeds need a temperature of 20-22°C to germinate quickly. Provide moderate humidity and access to light.
  • Quilting: After the first leaves are produced, young plants can be quilted into larger pots to strengthen before transplanting.
  • Planting in the garden: Once the risk of frost has passed (usually in the second half of May), transplant the gomphrena to a permanent location. It prefers sunny positions and well-drained soil.

Gomphrena blooms from July until the first frosts, producing numerous spherical inflorescences, which are ideal for drying. After cutting and proper storage, they maintain their intense color for a long time, so they are perfect for bouquets and decorations.
