Pearl anaphalis
Pearl anafalis, known as “Eternal Pearl,” is a plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. Prized for its delicate, long-lasting inflorescences in pearly white, it is perfect for dry compositions, interior decorations and bouquets, adding a subtle, elegant accent. Thanks to its ability to retain its shape and color after drying, “Eternal Pearl” is one of the most popular plants used in natural decorative arrangements.
Anafalis pearl - appearance and characteristics of the plant
Pearl anaphthalis is an elegant plant, whose appearance stands out from other garden perennials. Its stems are stiff, upright, ending with dense inflorescences arranged in umbels. The plant reaches up to 60 cm. The flowers resemble pearl-white baskets, and their dry, “paper” bracts - often mistaken for petals - add a unique charm and delicacy to the whole. The leaves are small, silvery-green in hue, covered with fine, felt-like hairs, which give the plant a soft, slightly dull appearance. The whole plant forms compact clumps, which makes it look showy, especially when it blooms en masse in summer.
Anafalis - occurrence and cultivation
Pearl anaphthalis is mainly native to colder regions of Asia, especially Siberia and Japan, where it grows wild in grassy areas and open, sunny spaces. In Poland it can be found mainly in gardens and allotments, where its decorative and hardy flowers are appreciated.
To grow, anafalis requires sunny sites, well-drained soil with a slightly acidic or neutral pH, and moderate watering. It is a drought- and frost-resistant plant, which makes it easy to care for and performs well in a variety of climatic conditions.
Dried anafalis - where to use?
In natural medicine, anafalis was sometimes used to make infusions and decoctions to help treat colds, due to its anti-inflammatory and strengthening properties. Additionally, due to its strength and durability, some handicraft traditions use anafalis to create natural dyes, as well as decorative elements in crafts.
Dried anafalis is extremely popular as an ornamental plant for dried bouquets and compositions in vases. Its silvery-white inflorescences bring elegance and lightness, providing the perfect backdrop or addition to bouquets, especially in boho or rustic styles. Thanks to its hardy, “paper-like” flowers, anafalis is perfect for year-round compositions, where it can be used both alone and in combination with other dried plants, such as poppies, flax or ornamental grasses.
