Acroclinium - appearance and characteristics of the plant

Acroclinium grows up to about 50cm. It has very characteristic straight, thin, unbranched stems ending in a white or pink flower. On the stem it has numerous small leaves. Flower baskets are surrounded by delicate almost that paper petals, by which we can meet the term for drylin - paper edelweiss. The flowers usually have a yellow center. Acroclinium - cultivation and use

Acroclinium is a very simple plant to grow. We can sow it directly into the ground, without preparing seedlings in advance. It likes strongly sunny places and will grow in practically any soil. It is important that there is no water stagnation - it is better if the drylin is a little dry than overwatered. Because of its charming appearance, we can very often find pink drylin in gardens and flowerbeds. They will look great in beds with such plants as zinnia, lion's maw, bayberry, hollyhock. Interestingly, we will not meet wild acroclinium in Poland - such is found only in Australia, its homeland. It is worth bearing in mind that on cloudy days and at night drylin closes its inflorescences.

If you want to dry a bouquet of drylin, it is important to harvest the flowers before the full bloom stage - this will allow the flowers to retain their form and color. Harvesting too late will cause the paper petals to droop.
