Lonas

Lonas, also known as hairy lonas (Lonas annua), is an annual plant in the aster family. It is most often found in gardens as an ornamental plant in flowerbeds. Attracting insects such as bees, it is an extremely useful flower in the garden. After drying, lonas does not lose its intesive color, making it an extremely desirable addition to dried compositions and all kinds of dried crafts.

Lonas - plant characteristics

Lonas are a genus of plants characterized by attractive flowers and ornamental leaves. Their leaves are lanceolate or elliptical, often with pointed tips, and the flowers come in a variety of colors - usually yellow. They are usually gathered in umbel-shaped inflorescences at the ends of the stems. The root system of lonas is usually well developed, which helps the plant get water and nutrients from the soil. The stems of lonas are usually straight and erect, reaching heights of several tens of centimeters to several meters. With its appearance, it closely resembles the common sea-rot.

Lonas occurance & cultivation

Lonas is originally native to Mediterranean areas and Western Asia. It is an annual plant that has also spread to other areas with warm climates. In Poland, lonas is not a native plant and does not occur wild. However, because of its drought tolerance and preference for warm conditions, it can be grown as an annual in our climate, especially in summer
