Dried lepidium

Lepidium (Lepidium sativum) to roślina pochodząca z rodziny kapustowatych do których należy blisko 150 gatunków. W Polsce potocznie nazywane jest rzeżuchą ogrodową lub rzeżuchą siewną. Określenie to stosowane jest do siewek pieprznicy siewnej, co ciekawe często stosowanych w kuchni jako dodatek do sałatek, sosów, serów. Pieprznica jest bogaty źródłem witamin C, D, kwasu foliowego.

Lepidium - plant characteristics

Dried lepidium is a plant that is impossible to pass by indifferently. Its stems reach a height of 30-70-cm. its upper part is strongly branched and has a characteristic bluish-green coating. The lower leaves are long-tailed, pinnate with incised segments, the middle ones are tripartite, and the upper ones are sitting, undivided, equiangular. Inflorescences in the form of a cluster composed of numerous white or light pink flowers. The flowers are small, four-flowered. The fruit is a roundish, upwardly winged achenes, 5-6 mm long, containing two smooth seeds.

 

Dried lepidium - use in floristry and handicraft

Hearing - cress - our first association is Easter, and rightly so, because this is when the peppercorn decorates our festive tables and holy baskets - this happens at an early stage of the plant's growth. So where can we use the grown and dried stems of lepidium? There are plenty of possibilities - bleached dried plants are highly valued among florists and handicraftsmen - dry bouquets for vases, occasional compositions, garlands and Christmas reeds - due to the plant's durability and flexibility it is very easy to work with, which makes it a popular choice among dried flowers.

What plants to combine lepidium with?

Because of its long, soaring branches, lepidium is a great addition and variety for dry bouquets. It looks beautifully in the company of dried cereals and ornamental grasses such as oats, egg bower. We can often find such a combination when creating Easter palms. Of dried flowers, it goes well with other elongated plants that on the branches densely spaced inflorescences like delphinium, lunaria, lavender. Remember that the listed dries are only a suggestion, do not be afraid to experiment and combine the most diverse species of dried and live plants.
